Oilersnation reacts to defeat the Calgary Flames

My God, what did we just witness in Game 5 between the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames ?! The Battle of Alberta (playoff edition) did not disappoint at all!

Let’s start with one of the most controversial calls of the year:

I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding the call-up, but there is no doubt that the best team won this series. What do you think, Oilersnation? Talk to me in the comments.

Okay, let’s go to the craziest 1:11 minutes we’ve ever seen in hockey …

(I feel like everyone must have been at their best during this time)

Flames and Oilers set NHL record for 4 fastest goals in playoff game (1:11)

– Sportsnet Statistics (@SNstats) May 27, 2022

And then there’s this Bob Stauffer statistic that sums up the BoA very well for Oilers fans:

The Calgary Flames had the third-best NHL defensive team in the regular season averaging 2.51 GAA per game. The @EdmontonOilers scored 25 goals in 5 games.

Leon Draisaitl 2-15-17 in the series.

Oilers now 5-1 all-time at the BOA.

Enjoy the Oil Country!

Game 5 also fell on a very important and special day …

Hey, @EdmontonOilers, tomorrow is Ben’s sixth birthday. A win tonight would be a great birthday present! #LetsGoOilers #BenOilersStrong pic.twitter.com/V94NvTVEJM

Which made this iconic moment even more memorable for all Oilersnations. For many years Ben!

As hockey fans around the world tuned in to the BoA, many of them began to learn a valuable lesson about Connor McDavid:

More McJesus means hockey wins. I learned a valuable lesson from all of this. Do not bet against our Lord and Savior. #StanleyCup pic.twitter.com/pHRCLR2uZN

– Paul Bissonnette (@ BizNasty2point0) May 27, 2022

While other fans took the time to express their gratitude and respect for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins:

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been an Oiler for 11 years. He’s been more shitty in Edmonton than any player I can think of. He never asked to leave once. He smiles at the Oilers fans, sings to him during his availability in the media last night, that’s all I need to see. I am very happy for him. pic.twitter.com/0QoFXCOPJI

This series of BoA playoffs was so important that pretty crazy bets were made!

Case in point: Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette.

Now, please correct me if I’m wrong, but here’s how I think the bet went down:

If Calgary beat Edmonton in the second round of the playoffs, Ryan Whitney had to punch his ears. If Edmonton beat Calgary in the second round of the playoffs, Paul Bissonette had to shave his head.

If you haven’t seen this video yet, I highly recommend it. Ryan Whitney is the ultimate comedy.

The joke between the two was so funny that even the Oilers got involved once Edmonton secured his place in the third round:

Now for the best part! Here are some of my favorite posts from Oilers fans themselves:

the Edmonton tankers came, saw, and won four in a row a Calgary Flames team that many said would compete for the Stanley Cup this year. the edmonton horses got it, but its depth played a key role.

they talked the talk and walked.

The Oilers have exceeded my expectations this season like shit.

I just wanted to get through the first round, anything else would have been just an advantage.

I AM. I HAVE NO WORDS. I LOVE THIS TEAM. I LOVE THE OILERS FAN. I LOVE YOU ALL. #LetsGoOilers

Honestly, the biggest s / o goes to Jay Woodcroft. If the Oilers hadn’t made the change of coach they did in the regular season, they wouldn’t be in that position now. They have the right coach at Woodcroft who has the best of these players

I’m not a body language expert, but it looks like Connor McDavid is very happy playing with the Edmonton Oilers. pic.twitter.com/kHt4m73VYc

Finally, I’m very happy with the Oilers fans. This fan base deserves this moment!

Then: Colorado or St. Louis!

I’m so excited for Oilers fans!

I still can’t believe what we saw yesterday. That game had a bit of everything and the best team won this series without a doubt

This fan base deserves it for so many reasons (past trauma lol), but also because these fans are amazing.

It might hurt you now, @NHLFlames, but one day you’ll get a kick out of it all.
