Several recent posts to a Kelowna Facebook group have drawn attention to illegal dumping and squatting camping along James Lake in Kelowna.

The site is located on Goudie Road.

Okanagan Forest Task Force founder Kane Blake says that despite the visible mess, there is a lot more rubbish than the photo shows.

“We’ve known about it for a year. There’s a process, though. We need to get a trash can in order, we need to make sure there are no people and they’re still actively there. You have to put all your ducks in one row to make sure everything goes smoothly. “

Blake says there are several heavy items on the site.

“There’s an engine block on the ground. So we’re going to need equipment to lift them. We’re going to clean everything up. It’s going to take a whole day.”

“We’ve visited the place a few times and there’s nothing livable, it’s all behind us,” Blake said.

Blake says the group will clean up the site and the area around the camp.

“This has become almost a full-time job for me and a few of us. We are in the field and constantly taking out trash, scrap metal and everything. It’s becoming a very big problem and it’s growing. Always we’re trying to tell people and make them aware “be mindful of things. If you see it, let us know, let the RDCO know.

Those interested in cleaning can find more information on the OFFF Facebook page.
