Ratten signals until the end of 2024

St Kilda coach Brett Ratten said he still has high expectations for the Saints in 2022 as they face a vital clash with ninth-place finalist Fremantle after the club returned him to signing for two years, extending his time at the club until at least the end of 2024.
Ratten, who turns 51 on Monday, is in his third full season for the Saints and has led them to win a final in his time at the club.
He said not signing had not distracted him from developing a solid football program that could push him towards a prime minister.
Saints Club president Andrew Bassat praised Ratten’s ability to develop players and create a strong culture.

Ratten was officially appointed St Kilda coach in 2020 after replacing Alan Richardson as interim coach in late 2019. He had spent five years as a senior coach at Carlton before becoming an assistant coach at Hawthorn during his time as triple prime minister. . The VAFA University Blues club is struggling to maintain its place in the Association’s first division after losing its first-round points for breaching player points rules in nine games in 2022.
The club, played by AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, was also fined $ 22,000 (half suspended) and lost the percentage won in the relevant games that fell from fifth to second.
The decision was made after a series of audits, investigations, appeals and court hearings revealed that there had been 22 incorrect assignments of player points where the limit of 45 points per game was exceeded.
