One man has died and another is in hospital after his boat hit a sea beacon this morning on the Costa Daurada.
The two men had gone inside a red tinnie off the shore of Jacobs Well around 11 a.m. when the boat hit the lighthouse at high speed.
Passing sailors saw the men and took them to the nearest sandbank.

Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) crews and police responded to the crash, but one of the men could not be rescued.
“Upon arrival, unfortunately, there was an adult male patient who had died and another man who had suffered facial injuries who had been transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable condition,” said Oliver Nicol of the Queensland ambulance.

A police boat returned the man’s body to shore while his companion, about 60, was treated for his injuries.
VMR’s Malcolm Smith said community members were in a hurry to help the ship.
“We got to the scene as fast as we could and there were quite a few people giving first aid,” he said.
“Very unusual for something like this to happen with this limb they were very unlucky.”
Conditions were calm this morning, with police now investigating what went wrong.
