Ottawa police have charged a 47-year-old Ottawa man with various sexual offenses with a minor under the age of 16, one of whom he allegedly met while involved with the Air Cadets in Ottawa.
Police said in a press release that the alleged incidents involved two youths and took place at the man’s home in the Richmond area between January 2020 and June 2022.
The Ottawa Police Service identified the defendant as Adrian Schmid, who was said to be a captain in the Cadet Organization Administration and Training Service (COATS), a branch of the Armed Forces Reserves. Canadian (CAF) working with air cadets in Ottawa.
“The protection, safety and welfare of cadets is always our top priority,” a CAF spokesman told CTV News Ottawa in a statement. “All adults who work in direct contact with cadets have a very high standard of conduct and are required to undergo a police check and a vulnerable sector check every five years.
“Once the Ottawa Police Service informed us of the arrest and investigation, the member was immediately advised to discontinue all activities of the Cadet Program and contact the cadets. Additional administrative measures regarding this Member are in progress “.
Schmid is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. Police say he is charged with two counts of sexual interference, two counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual intercourse, one counts of sexual assault with a weapon and one of making sexually explicit material available to a minor. 16 years old. old.
