Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in Napa County, California, Saturday night, according to the county’s website.
The bail for Mr. Pelosi, 82, was set at $ 5,000. County records show he was released Sunday morning. The charge he faces is a misdemeanor.
Ms. Pelosi, a Democrat, has not publicly addressed the arrest. On Sunday, he gave a graduation speech at Brown University. TMZ reported the news of her husband’s arrest.
A spokeswoman for Ms. Pelosi, Drew Hammill, said she was not with her husband during the incident.
“The speaker will not comment on this private matter, which happened while she was on the east coast,” said Mr Hammill in an email Sunday.
Pelosi, an investor who has normally avoided focus, runs Financial Leasing Services, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm.
