Power has been restored at Perth Airport after a major outage caused by bad weather that led to flight cancellations and widespread delays overnight.

The bad weather, brought on by a triple storm front hitting Western Australia once a year, saw all scheduled departure services depart before 8.30pm on Tuesday.
Check-ins, security checks and access to the car park were also affected.
Passengers were told to go home for the night and contact their travel agents.
“Perth Airport is working to activate all systems in its terminals in order to be fully operational,” Perth Airport said in a statement.

The airport has apologized for the inconvenience, saying the safety of everyone working or traveling through Perth Airport remained its top priority.
Thousands of people still without electricity
The airport was one of thousands of properties left without power in Perth as the first of three powerful cold fronts hit the state.

At the peak of the storm yesterday morning, Western Power said 35,000 customers were without power, but it has since been restored to more than 25,000 properties.
The wild weather will continue, with damaging winds averaging 65km/h and maximum gusts of more than 100km/h likely along the west coast and Perth this morning, before conditions ease during the afternoon.
Heavy showers and thunderstorms are also expected to persist throughout the day.

There is also a severe weather warning for damaging surf, with significant waves already in excess of 7 meters in exposed locations.
Forecast swells of over 9.5 meters are expected to hit Rottnest Island and Cape Naturaliste today.
