A man has been shot by police in WA’s Wheatbelt.
The man, in his 20s, was shot in the town of Pingelly, about 158 kilometers south-east of Perth, on Sunday morning.
Sources say the man was initially taken to Narrogin Hospital before being transferred to Royal Perth Hospital.
The man is understood to be in serious condition.
Assistant Commissioner Allan Adams confirmed on Sunday afternoon that the man was shot in the torso by police after he was called to a house about a disturbance.
He said an officer was forced to open fire on the man after he allegedly approached the officer with knives.
He said only one officer had attended the incident initially.
“Police … spoke to him to stop, deployed a taser which was ineffective and then (police) fired a single shot that struck the 20-year-old and prevented him from continuing,” Adams said .
