Police are looking for a suspect after a shooting in Kitchener

Waterloo Regional Police are looking for a suspect after a shooting on Gitchner Street in Kitchener.

In a press release, police said officers responded to the Park Street and Glasgow Street area in Kitchener to receive reports of gunfire around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Const. Andre Johnson told CTV News that an altercation took place before the gun was fired.

“We believe the suspect had an altercation with a potential person and as a result, a firearm was fired,” Const said. AndrĂ© Johnson told CTV News.

Police have not been able to confirm how many shots were fired, but said no one was injured.

A neighbor in the area who spoke to CTV News in front of the camera but did not want to be called described the incident as “a little disconcerting”.

“It’s shocking to hear about street shooting,” he said, adding that he had lived there for 13 years. “We haven’t heard anything like this before.”

“The fact that there is such a strong police presence suggests that there is an appropriate response,” he said. “And I hope that’s enough to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Police believe the incident was a target and there is no concern for public safety.
