Police in northern NSW are seeking two more arrests over the 2005 murder of German backpacker Simone Strobel after accusing her then-boyfriend of her murder earlier this week.
As Tobias Moran, 42, faced a Sydney court on Thursday for the first time since being extradited from Perth and later charged, NSW Police revealed they were working with German authorities to arrest two people they say they helped him cover up the murder.
Toby Moran, formerly known as Tobias Suckfuel, and Simone Strobel.
Superintendent Scott Tanner, Richmond Police District Commander, said NSW Police were “in the process of discussions with the German authorities in relation to two arrest warrants” relating to two people in Germany.
Those two people “have been persons of interest from the beginning,” he said, urging them to come forward and give police information.
“Clearly these two people know who they are,” he said. “It would be in his best interest to contact the German authorities.”
Tanner said the charges sought against the couple will be accessory after the fact to murder and perverting the course of justice.
Strobel, a 24-year-old teacher who worked with disabled children, was last seen at a Lismore caravan park in February 2005 after a night of drinking with Moran, his sister Katrin Suckfuel and his friend Jens Martin.
Her lifeless body was found under palm fronds near the caravan park five days after she disappeared.
