Police post photos related to the Kitchener shootings

Waterloo Regional Police on Thursday released photos of people they want to identify in connection with a couple of shootings in Kitchener.

In a press release issued Friday afternoon, police also confirmed that investigators believe the incidents are related.

The shootings took place two and a half hours apart, in two neighborhoods of Kitchener about 8 km away. No one was injured in the incident, and police said no arrests were made.

Police say the first set of shootings took place around 12:30 p.m. in the Belmont Avenue West and Karn Street area. A Belmont Avenue resident told CTV News that one of the bullets hit his car. He said he heard four gunshots outside his door and saw a man running down his sidewalk as a white SUV pulled away.

Then, around 3 a.m., a second shooting occurred near Fairview Park Mall. Police say a vehicle was also targeted in the incident.

In new details released Friday, police say three men were seen walking shortly before the 3:00 a.m. shooting, one of them wearing a brightly colored hooded sweater. Investigators are now looking to identify these people and are asking anyone with information to contact police.

Thursday, the ninth and tenth shootings in the region so far this year sparked a message from outgoing police chief Bryan Larkin.

“For those who continue to commit senseless crimes in our region, it must be stopped,” Larkin said in part in a message posted online.
