Police have conducted a search on New Brighton beach after finding a suspicious item.
HM Coast Guard were seen parked on the boardwalk around 10:20 a.m. this morning, June 2, as police officers searched the beach. Merseyside police said they were called after reports of suspected rusty ammunition were found.
Currently the tide covers the area where the element was found and there is a small cordon to prevent access by citizens. At this stage, the police cannot confirm what it is.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to New Brighton Beach at 10.20am this morning, Thursday 2 June, following reports that the alleged rusted ammunition had been found.
“The tide is covering the area, which is not currently open to the public, and at this stage it is not possible to confirm what the element is.
“The object will be examined when the tide goes down and properly disposed of.”
