Residents of Southeast Queensland and NSW are being asked to minimize their electricity use as power outages are expected tonight and tomorrow.
The Australian energy market operator (AEMO) confirmed that both Queensland and NSW could be affected by power outages during peak periods.
Several communities in Southeast Queensland could lose electricity between 5pm and 8.30pm today and around 8am tomorrow morning due to lack of energy reserves.

“The Australian energy market operator has identified the potential for electricity demand to exceed supply in Queensland at peak times over the next day or so, prompting a call for electricity consumption. energy is managed across Queensland, “said a Powerlink Queensland spokesman.
Winter temperatures have caused a peak in energy demand along with “unexpected power outages”, putting undue pressure on the electrical system.
High gas prices have caused AEMO to initiate price caps in response to demand.
Powerlink CEO Paul Simshauser urged Queensland residents to reduce their energy use from 5pm today to reduce pressure on energy suppliers and to ensure that electricity is still available to business owners and essential services.
“By carefully managing the use of electricity at home and in your workplace, the community can help ensure that the safety of the electrical system is maintained in Queensland,” Simshauser said.
“The safety and well-being of the community is important, so only manage energy consumption if it’s safe to do so.”
Queensland residents are advised to reduce or take into account the number of rooms in their home that require heating to save energy and turn off unused TVs, computers, and other appliances.
Residents are also asked to consider turning off the pool pumps and second refrigerators during these rush hours.

Business owners and staff have been asked to reduce the number of lights used in their businesses.
They are also asked to turn off any unnecessary advertising or outdoor lighting.
Businesses can also help save energy by turning off unnecessary water heating systems.
NSW may also be affected by energy shortages, and residents are being asked to reduce their energy use as of 8 p.m.
