Anthony Albanese has thanked Western Australians for their support during his first trip to the state since becoming Prime Minister.
Key points:
- The Prime Minister went to Perth for the first time since his election victory
- His victory was made possible in part by Labor’s performance in WA
- Albanese repeated his promise to return to WA regularly
Albanese arrived in Perth on Saturday to make a brief stop before his visit to Indonesia.
He dined Saturday night with WA Prime Minister Mark McGowan.
He was joined by WA MPs at Kings Park on Sunday morning, where he reaffirmed his election promise to visit Western Australia at least 10 times over the next 12 months.

“This is my fifth visit to Western Australia this year, which is not bad given that I haven’t been able to come for half of this year,” he said.
“But I pledged as the leader of the Labor Party to come to Western Australia 10 times a year and I repeat that commitment as Prime Minister.

Albanese said he was committed to relating to WA in a meaningful way.
“I always enjoy my time here … it’s an important part of the nation,” he said.
“During the pandemic, the success of Western Australia in sustaining our economy was absolutely vital during this period.
“So I say to Mark McGowan and his government, but most importantly to the people of Western Australia, we appreciate the sacrifices you made during that difficult time to stay safe, but it also had benefits for our national economy. “
“Stand on the Shoulders of True Believers”
Albanese later attended a celebratory barbecue on the south coast of Perth, where he thanked hundreds of Labor volunteers for their support.

“Labor MPs, whether they have been prime ministers or new MPs, are on the shoulders of true believers who make phone calls, knock on doors, defend the cause of Labor … and argued the case for change, “he said.
Albanese also confirmed that he would soon have official dates for a federal cabinet meeting in Perth, as well as one in Port Hedland.
