The Prodrive 25 is the ultimate Subaru Impreza WRX
What happens when you give engineers 25 years to think about how they can do something better? The answer is called Prodrive 25.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of the two-door Subaru Impreza World Rally Car, the famous rally partner of the Japanese brand, Prodrive, has redesigned the car for 2022. Prodrive engineers and designers have reworked all the details of the two doors. model, which became known as the 22B for the road and acquired cult status. This new vehicle will be limited to just 25 examples, but each has been meticulously designed to possibly create the ultimate Subaru WRX.
Although based on an original two-door Impreza WRX chassis, Prodrive has managed to save weight thanks to the extensive use of carbon composite panels, including the hood, roof, trunk, side sills, mirrors, rear panels, rear bumper and WRC-style unmissable rear wing. In total, the car weighs only 1200 kg.
Under the hood is Subaru’s latest 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine, but Prodrive experts have worked it out to extract 298 kW of power and 600 Nm of torque.
It is paired with a six-speed sequential transmission with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles, as well as an all-wheel drive system with an adjustable active center differential and limited front and rear sliding differentials.
There are adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers on each corner, as well as AP Racing brakes for maximum braking power.
All this state-of-the-art engineering is priced, with each of the 25 examples that Prodrive will build at a cost of £ 460,000 (approximately $ 809,000).
David Richards, president of Prodrive, who oversaw the original Impreza WRC during Subaru’s glory days at the World Rally Championships, said creating the Prodrive 25 was an emotional experience.
“The iconic blue Subarus brings back memories of an extraordinary WRC era and it was the Impreza 22B that brought this rally car to the road,” Richards said. “By reimagining this car using the latest technologies and materials, the Prodrive P25 pays homage to its roots and there will be little else that can match its performance on the road. So I think we have achieved our vision of creating the our own modern interpretation of the most iconic Subaru Impreza ever. “
Prodrive will debut the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this week.
