Sony’s PlayStation 5 game console has sold 20 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2020, the company confirmed to CNET by email on Friday. The next-generation PS5 console reached its milestone despite a shortage of stock due to the pandemic and global supply chain problems, as already reported by GamesIndustry.biz.
It is currently following in the footsteps of the PS4, but Sony expects the PS5 to eventually surpass its predecessor. New sales news comes less than a year after sales reach 10 million worldwide, a milestone that the PS5 reached a month faster than the PS4.
“For those fans who have not yet gotten their hands on a console, please know that we are planning a significant increase in PS5 production this year and are working tirelessly to ensure that PlayStation 5 is available for everyone wants one, ”said Veronica Rogers, head of global sales and business operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment, in a statement.
On Thursday, the live broadcast of PlayStation game status showed the next major games, including a remake of Resident Evil 4, Final Fantasy 16 and Street Fighter 6.
