A Canada Day fireworks show is planned in the city for tonight in St. Louis. John’s.

However, Corner Brook City Council has been forced to cancel its after the specialist pyrotechnician hired to do so was unable to travel to the city due to a flight cancellation.

Good afternoon, folks. Bad news: our fireworks show 🎆🎆 has been canceled.

This is industrial pyrotechnics that can only be operated by specialized personnel, and our technician has not been able to reach the province.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. pic.twitter.com/w0gJWhpiFH

The Sant Joan event kicks off at Quidi Vidi Lake with a live concert at the kiosk at 8pm, followed by fireworks at 10pm.

Meanwhile, tonight offers one of two opportunities during the year in which people can fire their own fireworks at St. John’s and Corner Brook.

Both cities have introduced new personal fireworks regulations that prevent people from using them on days other than New Year’s Eve and Canada Day.

The Deputy Mayor of St. John’s, Sheilagh O’Leary, says the statute was put in place to prevent residents from being bothered by fireworks year-round and at all hours of the night.

Personal Fireworks on Canada Day at St. John’s is only allowed from 7:30 to 12:30, “and that’s it,” O’Leary says.

At Corner Brook, personal fireworks can only be fired between 6pm and 9pm and 11pm and 1am.
