Quebec will lift COVID-19 mask warrants for public transportation beginning Saturday, June 18th.
Health officials confirmed in a press release on Wednesday that Health Minister Christian Dubé had made the decision following a public health recommendation.
“This is an important step, which confirms the significant improvement in the epidemiological situation in recent weeks. The decision to wear a mask, both in public places and on public transport, will remain a personal choice,” he said in a press release. .
The health department noted that everyone should respect those who want to continue wearing a mask to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection.
Mask mandates remain in place in healthcare settings, such as:
- General and specialized care hospitals (except psychiatric hospitals)
- long-term care centers (public or private)
- CLSC
- medical clinics where a doctor, nurse or nursing assistant works (except in places where only mental health services are offered)
In addition, people who have had COVID-19 must wear a mask during all social interactions for a minimum of five days after their isolation at home. People living with someone who has COVID-19 should also wear it for 10 days.
