I am about to leave for London this week to join the crowds of thousands in a national celebration of splendor and pomp, which corresponds to her guest of honor, Queen Elizabeth II, for the Platinum Jubilee which commemorates his 70-year reign.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has received a lot of coverage in the U.S. press and media in recent weeks. Why is there so much American interest in a foreign, non-agenarian great-grandmother when we rejected the institution she runs almost 250 years ago?
