Quin Snyder: “I feel strongly that they need a new voice to keep evolving. That is. No philosophical differences, no other reason. After 8 years, I think it’s time to move on. I needed to take time to separate after the season and make sure that was the right decision. ” pic.twitter.com/CRd277ttX8

Snyder coached the Jazz to a 49-33 record last season for his second straight position in the Northwest Division and his sixth consecutive postseason appearance. Utah lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs in six games.

Snyder had one year left on his contract. Athletic’s Sam Amick reported after the defeat that Snyder was not “sure” of his future with Utah, adding: “It looks like almost every stage is on the table.” Amick pointed out that there was still the possibility that Snyder could stay with the team, find a new job, or just take a year off.

Snyder coached the Jazz to a record 372-264 in the regular season. The team finished with the best balance in the league in 2020-21. However, Utah was plagued by postseason disappointments and never made it past the second round. In six playoff appearances, Snyder had a 21-30 record with three first-round outings in the last four years.

Despite having a pair of All-Stars in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, the Jazz struggled to build chemistry last season. There were rumors that Mitchell or Gobert were hoping to break up with Utah, but both publicly stated their commitment to the team.

With Snyder no longer at the helm, Jazz will turn the page to find someone to take them to the next level. From now on, it looks like Utah will continue to build around Mitchell and Gobert, so the next head coach will inherit a solid roster.
