Raiders sign wide receiver Hunter Renfrow for two-year, $ 32 million extension

Another dynamic wide receiver is charging.

The Las Vegas Raiders are signing Hunter Renfrow for a two-year, $ 32 million extension, including $ 21 million guaranteed, Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported Friday morning.

The selection for the fifth round of 2019 comes from a Pro Bowl campaign in which he scored 103 catches for 1,038 yards and nine TDs. Renfrow proved to be Derek Carr’s safety blanket and a third downhill machine. He is now being paid as the weapon he has become.

Renfrow was to play in the final year of his rookie contract, earning $ 2.54 million in base salary. The new pact puts it better in line with its value. With a lot of receivers exceeding $ 20 million a year this low season, Renfrow’s $ 16 million a year extension almost looks like a bargain considering its power, production, and growth status. But the deal almost reflects Cooper Kupp’s first extension (three years, $ 15.75 a year). Like Kupp, Renfrow could have another big payday in a couple of seasons.

Renfrow, a prince of slots, has become one of the best route runners in the game. At 5 feet 10 with no lightning speed, the Clemson product uses sharp cuts and precise routes to get around the corners faster and create space. His toughness when hitting and his variability with the ball in his hands make him the ideal threat to third parties.

When Carr needed a key play last year, you could bet your shorts looked first at Renfrow.

With the addition of Davante Adams, the Raiders now have at their disposal two of the best road runners in the NFL. Although at first glance, it may seem that the arrival of Adams could bring some shine to Renfrow’s production. But with the attention that the outside receiver is likely to have, Renfrow should see even more advantageous clashes. There is a lot of pig skin for both of us to thrive on.

The extension continues a trend of paying for new Raiders brass to maintain local talent. Before he even played a game under the regime, general manager Dave Ziegler has handed over extensions to Carr, defender Maxx Crosby and now Renfrow. The next to charge: the tight end Darren Waller.
