Ralf Rangnick’s comments following Manchester United’s defeat at Crystal Palace indicated that the German was staying at Old Trafford for his role as a consultant.
United announced on Sunday that Rangnick would leave the club before starting his consultancy role. The 63-year-old will be in charge of the full-time Austrian national team.
The club said in a statement: “We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim coach for the past six months. By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as head coach. “Austria and will therefore not take on the role of consultant at Old Trafford.”

However, this sudden turn of events is even more surprising given Rangnick’s comments after the defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend. Speaking of moving to the consultant role, Rangnick detailed his conversations with new chief Erik ten Hag about the consultant role.
