After having a day to think about the end of the Battle of Alberta, I thought I’d come up with some ideas to summarize the series and get your feedback on everything that’s happened so far.
COLEMAN’S KICK
This is the most convincing angle of Coleman’s goal reversal, in my opinion. But was it a different kick move? This will be debated for a long time, depending on how the overtime goes. pic.twitter.com/kpHIhKYvjR

Since the most important story in Game 5 was Blake Coleman’s “no-goal” call at the end of the third period, I thought we could start here as well. If I’m being honest, and I wrote this in the Wrap Up that night, I was surprised that the goal wouldn’t have been allowed, as I personally didn’t see any different kick movement from Coleman at work or enough rehearsals to cancel. call. the ice. Sure, I was happy, but I didn’t think we’d be so lucky either, I thought it was a good goal. That said, as soon as the call came from Toronto, the first thing I thought was that the Oilers had to find a way to seize the opportunity. They needed to finish the series at that point instead of giving the Flames some hope that they could return, and that’s exactly what happened. As much as I understand why the Flames fans are upset, they should probably be more angry because their team has lost two two-goal lead at home and lost both games. A call, controversial or not, is not the reason the Flames lost this series. The reality is that they were not very good. Also, who can say the Oilers couldn’t have come back and tied the game in the last six minutes anyway? It’s not that they haven’t done it a lot of times already.
CALGARY HAD NO ANSWERS FOR CONNOR AND LEON
What can you say about the work that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl did in the second round that has not yet been said? Every night, these two did so much magic together and it was so much fun to see them do the Flames, no matter who they were. Honestly, it’s hard to describe how amazing these two were as they racked up 29 points against a team that had been so good defensively all season. However, in the playoffs, the Flames did not find a way to close them even in the smallest way. Not to mention, we knew before the start of the series that Draisaitl was struggling with an ankle injury, but that didn’t stop him from setting an NHL record trio and beating the entire Calgary top line throughout those five games. McDavid and Leon were fantastic individually, but together they were unstoppable. From Game 1 until Connor finished OT, these two were amazing to watch and I hope everyone took a minute or two to appreciate what we were watching because this was a historical series for both boys. Really awesome in every way.

THE OTHER “NEWS” WERE BETTER TOO
Another of my favorite things about this series was the bulletin board material that the Flames were giving to our boys throughout the series, and there was no better example than Tkachuk and Andersson saying “a boy.” defeated them after game 3. dismantling. Well, it turns out, that “boy” ended up being very different, as the Oilers were able to get key contributions from basically everyone in the top six. Either Evander Kane scoring five goals (5G, 1), Zach Hyman scoring in every game (6G, 2A) or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scoring Game 4 with a pair of clutch markers (2G, 4A), the Oilers went received more contributions from his entire lineup than the Flames and was not particularly close. From my side of the TV screen, our team got the performances they needed from key players, while the opposition can’t say the same.
ZACH HYMAN
With goals in all five games, he had six in total, I guess the Maple Leafs really missed what Zach Hyman could do if he could only get through the first round. Jokes aside, I love the way this guy plays hockey. Hyman is basically a 2000% effort in each and every turn and I wanted to make sure I gave him some love for this mess. It makes a big difference and it’s a real pleasure to see him do his thing.
THE GOALKEEPER
Pretty rude to say about Markstrom tbh

What adventure was the goalkeeper in the battle of Alberta, amirite? In the days leading up to Game 1, we learned a lot about the Flames’ advantage over Jacob Markstrom over Mike Smith, but it wasn’t. Now, I’m not saying everything was sunny and rosy for us: Rogers Place was quiet on Tuesday night in January after the 132-foot goal in Game 4, but Mike Smith found a way to make more savings when we needed. more than Markstrom for the Flames. I mean, would you have believed me before the series started if I told you that Markstrom would allow more than 4 goals in all five games and that Smith would end up with the highest savings percentage? You would have told me he was crazy. However, when all was said and done, the 40-year-old tender to which no one gave credit came to the fore. Schmiddy struggled, Markstrom couldn’t match.

THE DEFENSE
For a group that didn’t get much credit during the season, the Oilers ’defensive group deserves a lot of credit for the way they’ve come together during this postseason. Again, I’m not suggesting that they were perfect, but I’m absolutely saying that we’re getting more out of this ending than anyone could have imagined in December, when the sky fell on us. I don’t know what Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson are doing there, but they have the guys cheering on the defense, including some punctual goals during the playoffs of everyone who plays key minutes. Whether it was Keith scoring four points in the series, Ceci’s continued calm composure, the nurse playing through a very hard injury, or Bouchard scoring Calgary with three goals from the point, the Oilers defenders had a great series against a team that had a lot of skill and I am offering a big shout out to these guys for what they have achieved so far.
THE HYPE HOME BECAME SHORE
DEVIN SHORE IS THE LAST HYPE MAN! pic.twitter.com/y7BtM3JXeU

He hasn’t played a game during this playoff phase, but that hasn’t stopped Devin Shore from being the ultimate fashion man. Check out the reaction after the McDavid’s OT winner on Thursday night. The guy is as excited as anyone and I love watching him.
THE WOODCROFT POWER POSITION
The fact that Woodcroft was like that for about 10 seconds still makes me laugh. pic.twitter.com/lcySVZntPr

Finally, Jay Woodcroft’s position of power will always amuse me. I like it very much.
