Rangnick confirmed the news on Sunday at a press conference with Austria and Manchester United said:
“We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months.
“By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as coach of the Austrian national team and will therefore not hold the position of consultant at Old Trafford.
“We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career.”
Rangnick took over in early December and led the team for the rest of a challenging season, with his stint as interim providing United with a crucial time to conduct a thorough search for our next coach. giving rise to the appointment of Erik ten Hag.
He will now take over Austria for the next League of Nations matches, as he will face Croatia, Denmark and France in Group A1.
