Rare employees are still unlocking hits for a GoldenEye 007 Xbox port that doesn’t exist yet

It hasn’t even been announced yet, let alone released, but Rare employees seem to be unlocking an achievement for an unannounced GoldenEye 007 Xbox port.

As our VGC friends have seen, the Xbox TrueAchievements tracker has tracked the unlocked and public achievements of BIGsheep, an alleged Rare developer that has been working on the game since October 2021.

After a brief hiatus between February and April, the developer recently unlocked an achievement called “Merciless,” which rewards you for killing an unarmed player in multiplayer.

The news comes just months after a recently leaked set of Xbox achievements came online a few weeks ago.

The list of achievements, which was removed from Microsoft’s servers, includes 55 new prizes and 1000 Gamerscore to complete the game’s campaign and play its various multiplayer modes. Achievement artwork even includes screenshots of the classic James Bond shooter.

Adding more fuel to the speculative fire is confirmation that GoldenEye 007 is no longer banned in Germany, which many suspect is because GoldenEye 007 may now end up included in Switch Online’s “Expansion Pack” service.

There has been no official announcement of this new release of GoldenEye 007 and for now, both Rare and Microsoft remain schtum, so all we can do is attribute it to another industry rumor at the moment. It is believed, however, that the imminent release date of the game may have been delayed after Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
