The world of space in games can reach computers through a loudspeaker, but it seems that it will not achieve everything in 3D sound.
Sound bars have become the logical place for TV owners to update their sound quickly, usually because it’s so easy to do. Grab a sound bar, plug it in, and your TV will often have a better sound stage to work with, which, depending on the feature set, may seem like more things are happening around you.
In the world of computers, things haven’t always been this way, but soundtracks are also painting a different picture.
Many will tolerate the sound of your computer, although depending on the computer you have, you may not need to “support” anything. The speakers on many desktops and laptops are great, and you only need to check the sound of the iMac M1 to see what we’re talking about.
But not everyone has it, and if the sound on your computer isn’t great and you’re usually plugging in headphones just to make it all better, a sound bar might help. As in the world of TV, it is a speaker that can be added to make everything easier and better, and it can even offer you a burst of 3D sound, depending on the features.
On the latest Razer desktop soundbar, this seems to be the focus, with the Leviathan V2 built into technology to enhance the sound on your desktop, while offering a little more.
Following on from the original, the Leviathan V2 includes seven speakers, with two full-range controllers, two tweeters, two passive radiators and a subwoofer, but with a small design.
There is the option to send it to a wired subwoofer if necessary, but in general, the Leviathan V2 is designed to be compact, sitting under a screen, with a combination of technology that results in a stylish speaker. 7.1 with a degree of spatial sound. thanks to the purchase of THX from Razer years ago.
Razer already has a THX 3D sound driver system, but it’s only Windows, and that’s no different, with the company confirming to Pickr that the space sound offered by Leviathan V2 is only created for Windows, sorry, for Mac users, though other operating. Systems can use the speaker without space.
It means that things like Apple Music playback will lose space Atmos when used with a Mac, while Windows still doesn’t support functionality. Razer confirmed that Netflix on Windows could run space audio even from the web browser, although its Synapse software emulates space audio instead of taking the original Atmos feed. It will be a degree of 3D sound even if the actual soundtrack has a proper 3D soundtrack.
Outside of space, Windows and Mac can connect to the speaker system via USB for stereo sound, turning the Leviathan V2 into a sound system for your computer, while other devices can send their audio wirelessly to Bluetooth, including phones, tablets and even a Nintendo Switch.
Like other Razer devices, you’ll also find more of this colorful RGB lighting that can be controlled with one app, otherwise you should only be able to turn it off if you don’t need any extra bright light on your clean desktop.
As for how it sounds, we’re not sure. Our guess is that the 3D sound THX offers in Leviathan will probably be a psychoacoustic sound that is no different from the experience offered by other small sound bars without speakers shooting up, such as the Sonos Beam Gen 2, something which we are using as desktop soundbar. However, the idea of packing a 7.1 system into such a small device is intriguing and with whom we like to play.
People interested in this will find the Razer Leviathan V2 in select stores later this year, arriving in Australia for a suggested retail price of $ 409.95.
