Reading Station: Arrest after man dies at station

He has been arrested after an “unnecessary act of violence” which left a man dead in Reading Station.

Police closed the transport hub in the early hours of Sunday, July 31, after being called to reports of an injured man just after 11.43pm the day before.

Emergency services were unable to help the man when they arrived at the station and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His relatives have been informed and are being cared for by trained officers.

Following the incident, the police arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

He remains in custody this morning.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Langley said: “This is a needless act of violence which has resulted in the tragic loss of a man’s life. Officers were able to make an arrest quickly at the scene and a man remains in custody this morning

“While we are still in the early stages of our investigation, we believe the men had an altercation on board a train before the victim was assaulted on platform eight.

“Witnesses will be crucial in helping us piece together exactly what happened last night, and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or the moments leading up to it to contact us as soon as possible.
