Actress Rebel Wilson has responded to allegations that he revealed his relationship with a woman because an Australian newspaper was going to “exclude” her.
Wilson announced last Friday on Instagram that he was dating fashion designer Ramona Agruma, who received an overwhelmingly positive response.
“I thought I was looking for a Disney prince … but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney princess,” Wilson wrote.

On Saturday, Andrew Hornery, who writes the Private Sydney column for the Sydney Morning Herald, wrote that Wilson “chose to look” his first on the relationship.
“In a perfect world, ‘going out’ same-sex celebrities should be a redundant concept in 2022. Love is love, right?”
“As Rebel Wilson knows, we do not live in a perfect world.
“So it was with great caution and respect that this media sent an email to Rebel Wilson’s representatives on Thursday morning, giving her two days to discuss her new relationship with the leisurewear designer. by LA Ramona Agruma, before publishing a single word.
“Big mistake. Wilson chose to look at the story, posting about his new ‘Disney Princess’ on Instagram in the early hours of Friday morning, the same platform he had previously used to brag about his handsome ex-boyfriend, the rich baron of the American beer Jacob Busch …
“Given the bitterness that Wilson had complained about poor journalistic standards when he successfully sued Women’s Day for defamation, his choice to ignore our discreet, genuine, and honest inquiries was, in our view. opinion, disappointing. “
Hornery and the Sydney Morning Herald received a flurry of criticism on social media for forcing Wilson’s hand to reveal their same-sex relationship, especially during Pride Month.
BBC journalist Megha Mohan wrote on Twitter: “I just read this article @smh 3 times to make sure it wasn’t misinterpreted. The post sent a message to Rebel Wilson saying they would drop it in two days, she now complains that she decided to announce her relationship with a woman herself.

Mohan’s tweet alone has so far attracted more than 156,000 likes and 20,000 retweets.
Actor Matt Lucas, a former Wilson roommate and co-star of Bridesmaids, tweeted: a first relationship. I thought the press was forcing people to go out on their own, whether they were ready or not, it was a thing of the past. I must have been wrong. “

Network 10 journalist Kate Doak tweeted: “Apparently it wasn’t @ RebelWilson’s choice to go out … @ smh / @ theage have admitted to warning him with two days “Worse, the openly gay men of the Sydney Morning Herald were involved in this.”
In response to Doak’s tweet, Wilson wrote Sunday night, “Thank you for your comments, it was a very tough situation but trying to handle it with grace.”

Prior to Wilson’s tweet, Sydney Morning Herald editor Bevan Shields wrote in an online editorial that “saying the Herald” ruled out “Wilson is wrong.”
“Like other headlines every day, we just asked questions and, as standard practice, we included a deadline for an answer.”
“I hadn’t made any decision on whether or what to post, and the Herald’s decision on what to do would have been informed by any response Wilson provided.
“Wilson made the decision to publicly reveal his new partner, which had been a feature of his social media accounts for months.
“Private Sydney is a column in which the writer ‘s interaction with his subjects is often part of the story.
“Saturday ‘s piece followed this topic to give readers information about our interaction with Wilson and his public relations team. This was not standard news.
“We wish Wilson and Agruma the best.”
The ABC has contacted Hornery to comment.
Shields addressed the ABC in his editorial published Sunday when he was contacted to comment on Wilson’s statement.
