Rockstar Games has confirmed what many already suspected: there will be no major content updates for Red Dead Online from now on. Instead, the company is shifting resources to focus on the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto series. He also confirmed that there will be more updates and quality of life improvements for his popular open world crime simulator, GTA Online.
In a blog post posted today on Rockstar’s official website, the publisher outlined his future plans for both GTA Online and Red Dead Online. And while Rockstar had a lot to say about the future of its online GTA game, it said very little about its open-world online western. What I did have to say was not great, as the publisher basically announced that the game is life support and will no longer be a priority for the company.
While Rockstar thanked the RDO community and fans for continuing with the game over the past few years, it had some bad news for people who still enjoy RDO. According to Rockstar, it has been “constantly moving more development resources” to the next entry in the GTA series, which has long been rumored to be GTA 6. He says he wants to “exceed players’ expectations” with the next game and resources once dedicated. in RDO they have moved to GTA 6.
This aligns with what Kotaku has heard from sources about the company increasingly devoting its resources to the upcoming GTA game, to the point of even canceling plans for future remasters in the process.
Rockstar will continue to hold one-month events at Red Dead Online and plans to add some new Telegram missions.

However, the publisher confirmed that it has no plans to release any major thematic content updates for RDO, such as Blood Money or previous Moonshiners.
In addition to seasonal special events and experience enhancements, as well as other changes to improve and maintain a healthy Red Dead Online environment, we plan to take advantage of existing modes and add new Telegram missions this year, instead of delivering major thematic content updates like previous years, and we will continue to highlight and share the creative efforts of our Red Dead community at every opportunity through Newswire and beyond.
It’s not the news Red Dead Online players were expecting, but it’s not surprising either. At this time, many members of the community have been calling the game dead, and some even plan to hold a funeral later this month to lament the lack of game updates and lack of support.
With this news from Rockstar, the publisher has basically put the game on vital support and while it will stay active and receive some small updates along the line, the reality is that Rockstar is now fully focused on GTA Online and GTA 6 instead of digital. cowboys and the horses on which they rode.
