It has been reported that Rockstar intended to release Red Dead Redemption 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S, but has since abandoned plans to do so.
This is according to Tez2, a Rockstar informant who has accurately leaked information about the company’s games in the past.
Last week they claimed that remasters of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption “were on the table a few years ago,” but are no longer planned.

And in a more recent online exchange shared on Twitter by another Rockstar Games enthusiast, Tez2 claimed that an improved version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is no longer being planned.
When asked if it’s safe to say that Red Dead Redemption 2 will never receive a PS5 and Xbox Series X / S release now, Tez2 replied, “Yes. I’ve been hearing about it for a long time.
“As well as his plan to create an improved Rockstar editor. Everything has been canceled / stopped now.”

Kotaku later backed up Tez2’s previous claims about the planned remasterings of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption.
Citing sources familiar with Rockstar’s plans, he said the studio had parked, at least temporarily, the remasters to focus entirely on Grand Theft Auto 6.
A few days later, Rockstar posted a blog in which he said he would end the major development of Red Dead Online while still working on GTA 6.
“Over the last few years, we have been constantly moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, understanding more than ever the need to exceed player expectations and make this next entry the best it can be.” he said.
