Apple’s iOS 16 has been unveiled and includes a lot of amazing new features that help increase the security and privacy of the iPhone, as well as being extremely useful, of course.
Revealed at Apple’s World Developers Conference (WWDC), iOS 16 has not yet reached the world of online advertising, that is, Facebook, with no major movement. But that doesn’t mean nothing is coming. It had been suggested that Private Relay might be available to all iPhone users by default, and this could still happen.
The soon-to-be-launched iOS 16 operating system includes some features that people have been longing for, and at its core, it continues Apple’s ethic of giving you more control over your iPhone’s data. In terms of security, Apple wants iPhone users to be safe by default, and some of the new features in iOS 16 are meant to do just that.
Here’s what to expect when iOS 16 arrives this fall.
Send messages
This is great, and a feature that many Apple fans have been asking for for a long time. Apple has now given you the ability to edit and cancel the sending of iMessage messages to your iPhone. This means that any text message you regret at night or any embarrassing work message can be deleted in the blink of an eye.
It’s easy to do, just remember the message using the Undo Send tool. If you edited the message, the only gift for the person receiving the iMessage will be a small “edit” below the text. Apple is playing catch up with this feature of the iPhone, but the wait will not be long to finally be able to use it.
Access keys
Passwords hurt. They can often be guessed, they are exposed to infractions, and many people repeat them through services. I’m often promoting the benefits of password managers, but there’s something even better on the horizon: Apple’s passwords to iOS 16 are aimed at getting rid of passwords completely.
The keys are not just a matter of Apple, it is promoted by the FIDO Alliance of which Apple is a member along with Google and Microsoft. Based on the WebAuthn standard, security keys use public key encryption to protect your accounts, eliminating the need for passwords. Simply put, using iOS 16 passwords, Apple will authenticate you in the background, and all you have to do is use Face ID or Touch ID, instead of a password. Great eh?
Security check
A new privacy feature called Safety Check will arrive in iOS 16, which aims to help protect people from abusive couples. The feature allows you to stop location sharing and revoke all access to accounts you may have previously granted, including an emergency reset feature to quickly shut down iCloud and reset your privacy permissions. This ensures that only the device you are currently using receives messages. The iOS 16 feature is also more useful: you can use Security Check to see which people and apps have access to the information.
And one more thing …
No major features of the iPhone with advertising impact may have been revealed so far, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be in iOS 16 later betas. Other cool new features include the ability to lock hidden photos and deleted photos by default to hide your private images, and for security, you can now access Wi-Fi passwords and get patches of important security features on your iPhone by default. .
It’s still early days, but it’s clear that iOS 16 will continue Apple’s ethic of giving you more security, privacy, and control over your iPhone. The exact release date is not yet known, but it will probably be in September along with the release of the latest iPhones.
