Ottawa police say a person is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following reports of gunfire in a cemetery on South Manotick Road shortly after 3 p.m. Friday.
According to police sources, the shooting took place in the Ottawa Muslim Cemetery, the same place where a funeral was held on Friday for 24-year-old Abdulhamid Haji Ragab, who died earlier this week in a deadly shooting in a community housing neighborhood south of Ottawa.
Chaw Lemieux appeared in court Friday in connection with the incident. He is charged with a felony of second-degree homicide and was arrested.
Police vehicles were blocking the entrance to the cemetery past 4pm, and officers turned down cars trying to enter the area. A CBC reporter heard an agent tell a driver “it’s the crime scene,” as they drove away.
In a tweet, Ottawa police asked people to avoid the area. The investigation continues.
