Resident Evil 4 remake with a reimagined story for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X / S until March 2023

Capcom has officially announced its long-awaited remake of Resident Evil 4 and has provided a release date: March 24, 2023.

This reimagined version of Capcom’s survival horror classic kicked off tonight’s State of Play showcase with an engaging trailer.

As expected, we saw numerous images of locations similar to Resident Evil 4, although it was also made clear that this is a slightly different remake, with many that looked new. Here is the trailer:

Our first look at the new Resident Evil 4.

In a post attached to the PlayStation blog, Capcom explained that this new version of Resi 4 would be “known to fans of the series, while providing a fresh feel.”

“This is being done by reimagining the game’s history while maintaining the essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics, and upgrading the controls to a modern standard,” Capcom continued.

The scenes with the hero Leon S. Kennedy meeting the President of the United States, for example, were definitely not in the original Resi 4, although these play in the recent series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness CGI.

There is no suggestion that Resident Evil 4 is PlayStation exclusive, although there will be some PlayStation VR2 functionality. [UPDATE: Indeed, Capcom has now confirmed the game’s launch platforms are PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.]
