A young Australian traffic controller has hit back at trolls who mocked her job by revealing she can earn up to $750 a day working on the roads.
Road worker Chloe Brianna took to TikTok to clap back at trolls who said she was ‘standing around doing nothing’ and told her to ‘get a real job’.
The young woman responded to the cruel comments by revealing how much she earns each week as a road worker.
In a now-viral video, Chloe, who works in Victoria, claims she earned $3,073.75 in one week as a FIFO worker, which came to $2,280.75 after tax.
“What I do on a wheel, the night shift and living far away as a traffic controller,” she wrote.
“Monday 1pm: $672.44 + $76.88 Residence Allowance. Tuesday 12pm: $606.22 + $76.88 Living Away Allowance.
“Wednesday 12 hours: $606.22 + $76.88 living-out allowance. Thursday 12 hours: $606.22 + $76.88 living-out allowance.
“Friday 5.25am – $275.16. Total (before tax) $3073.75, (after tax) $2280.75.”
Chloe’s video quickly went viral and now has over 1 million views.
In some other follow-up videos, he showed that his weekly rate can vary depending on where he works and his hours.
While he might make over $3000 one week, another week he took home $2379.
If Chloe earns an average of $2,500 a week, that would still make her $130,000 a year.
She also clarified that when she works outside the home, her accommodation is paid for, but she still has to buy her own groceries, just like she would at home.
“Honestly, this is one of the best jobs in the world,” he wrote on his TikTok page.
“It can be a mental challenge at times, but it’s so worth it.
“So much for traveling and meeting new people every day. I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
While many applauded their success and questioned how they could break into the industry, others attacked Chloe’s career choice.
“It’s ridiculous how much they get paid to run a stop sign, listen to music and scroll on their phone,” one person said.
“Paid to stay there, what a world.”
“Half a brain, twice the $$$, anyone mentally challenged could do this,” one troll scoffed.
“Way to pick an easy, unskilled job.”
Many in the industry jumped to Chloe’s defense and attested that the job is not as “easy” as some perceive it to be.
“People need to understand that it’s not just hanging around,” one person said.
“We have to always be on our game for anything.”
“It’s actually harder than people think,” said another.
“I’m a traffic controller and some of the abuse we get is brutal.”
