Rockstar has confirmed that they will not support their digital Westworld of Red Dead Online with more major content updates, as the development of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto has priority. The news came via a post on the Rockstar news blog. Players in the Red Dead Online community have expressed disappointment at the game’s apparent lack of support, and some even decided to host a funeral for the July 13 multiplayer cowboy spin-off.
Matthew enjoyed his time with Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, despite the buggy release.
In the blog post, Rockstar promised continued support for Red Dead Online, but ruled out more major updates in the future, saying, “Over the past few years, we’ve been constantly moving more development resources toward the upcoming entry of Grand Theft Series of cars. […] As a result, we are in the process of making some changes in how we support Red Dead Online. “
Rockstar said they would continue to highlight activities such as story-based cooperative missions, specialist roles and competitive coping modes in their monthly event scheduling, as well as providing special seasonal events and enhancements. However, its main plan is to “take advantage of existing modes and add new Telegram missions this year, rather than offering major thematic content updates as in previous years.”
PC gamers first tested Red Dead Online in November 2019, when Red Dead Redemption 2 finally hit PC a year after its console release. The last significant update to the game was Blood Money last year, which added Crim and Opportunity missions for classic cowboy crossings, such as stealing banks, stealing trains, and good old-fashioned robberies. The lack of new content since then, however, has delineated sections of the Red Dead Online community to such an extent that the hashtags “RedDeadFuneral” and “SaveRedDeadOnline” began appearing on Twitter earlier this week.
Red Dead News, who first suggested the in-game funeral, criticized Rockstar for how they had handled game updates, and tweeted: “If they had also added features requested by fans (which are present on GTA Online ), such as private lobbies, a creator mode, and a Rockstar editor, this ad may not sting as much. Because gamers could still generate their own content instead of developer support. ”
Red Dead Online is still available on Steam as a standalone game for £ 18 / $ 20 / € 20. Also included with Red Dead Redemption 2.
