Rogers Network Interruption Forces Delay Peter Nygard’s Bail Hearing on Sexual Charges

The appearance of Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard in Montreal court on sex-related charges has been postponed due to the disruption of the Rogers Communications network.

Prosecutor Jerome Laflamme says it is impossible for Nygard, who is being held in a Toronto prison, to appear in court by videoconference due to the disruption of the Toronto telecommunications company.

Laflamme says Nygard will appear in Quebec court next week for a bail hearing, but no date has been set.

Nygard, 80, faces charges of sexual assault and forced confinement in Quebec.

He is now also charged with 11 counts of sexual assault and three counts of forced confinement in Toronto, related to allegations from the late 1980s and mid-2000s.

In addition, Nygard faces extradition to the United States on sex-related charges.

He has been in custody since he was arrested in Winnipeg in December 2020 on nine sex-related charges in New York. He was arrested by Toronto police and transferred there last October.
