McIlroy’s victory came amid controversy over PGA Tour players deserting for LIV Golf. As one of the faces of the PGA Tour, McIlroy’s victory made a big statement and overshadowed LIV golf commissioner Greg Norman.
Norman told the Washington Post that McIlroy had been “brainwashed” by the PGA Tour. McIlroy responded with the victory at St. George’s, beating Norman on the all-time PGA Tour winning list.
“This is a day I will remember for a very, very long time. Twenty-one PGA Tour victories, one more than anyone else,” he said shortly after the victory.

So it was like that. “It ‘s great for me, just a little bit of pride for it,” he continued at the post – round press conference.
McIlroy finished the weekend with a pair of 19 below.
“I feel like it’s getting harder and harder to win the PGA Tour. Just look at the two guys I played with today. I came out on top and I had to shoot 8 under par to get the job done. The depth of talent in this “It’s really awesome, and facing guys like JT and Tony and coming out on top is something to feel good about,” McIlroy said.
