After nearly half a year of negotiations, Netflix has closed a deal for Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming big-budget film.
The duo, known for the big box office of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, will direct The Electric State for the streaming giant, a move that will bring them together with the company behind their current project, the film action The Gray May, which premieres. in July.
Millie Bobby Brown, the star of Netflix’s Stranger Things, is on board to star in the feature film, starring Chris Pratt, who appeared in the Avengers of Russia movies, in conversations to join her.
Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, long-time Russian writers who worked on Gray Man, as well as on the Avengers photos, are writing the script.
The cost is not cheap. The project was previously created at Universal, which eventually opposed the price and launched it. According to sources, the new budget is more than $ 200 million.
The story centers on an orphaned teenager (Brown) who traverses an American West reminiscent of a retro future with a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric vagabond in search of her little brother.
The project adapts the acclaimed 2018 illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag, the writer and artist who also created Tales from the Loop.
The producers are the Russians through their AGBO flag, along with the company’s co-founder, Mike Larocca. Chris Castaldi and Patrick Newall are also producers. Executive producers are Angela Russo-Otstot, Jake Aust, Geoff Haley, Markus and McFeely.
Production is scheduled to begin in October in Atlanta.
The Russians are replaced by CAA and Greenberg Glusker while Brown is replaced by WME and Hansen Jacobson.
