The supposed unveiling of the Galaxy Watch 5 is just a few weeks away, and there’s a lot to be excited about with this new watch.
Samsung fans should have already circled their calendars for August 10, the date of Samsung Unpacked. It has been widely speculated that the event will feature the unveiling of the Galaxy Fold 4, Flip 4, Galaxy Buds Pro 2 and Galaxy Watch 5. Pre-order offers available on Samsung’s US site pretty much confirm that these products will be included.
Like many others, we found the Galaxy Watch 4 to be a commendable if flawed offering. Let’s take a look at how Samsung plans to step it up with the Galaxy Watch 5.
Galaxy Watch 5 release date
As previously stated, the Galaxy Watch 5 is fully guaranteed to be unveiled at the Samsung Unpacked event on August 10 at 11pm AEST. You can stream the event via Samsung’s website. General availability should arrive shortly after the event.
Galaxy Watch 5 price
The vast majority of leaks suggest that there will be no Galaxy Watch 5 Classic. Samsung has apparently cut the probably obscure branding from the Classic line. Instead, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will take its place.
Leaked retail listings have seen the 40mm Bluetooth-only edition of the Galaxy Watch 5 priced at EUR 259.98 (~AUD$382) and the 44mm Bluetooth-only edition priced at 286, €90 (~AUD$420). Meanwhile, the Bluetooth-only 45mm version of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will reportedly cost €430.89 (~AUD$634).
While a Euro-AUD conversion won’t reveal the exact prices Australians will pay for these wearables, it’s a good indication. For reference, the 40mm version of the Galaxy Watch 4 Bluetooth had an MSRP of $399 at launch. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, which the Watch 5 Pro is designed to replace, costs $599 for the equivalent version we’ve seen listed.
It looks like consumers will enjoy a small price cut for the base version of the Galaxy Watch 5 and, as expected, a moderate increase for the Pro edition compared to the Classic edition.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 design
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is not expected to change things too much from the previous version. Leaked backs it up with a design that doesn’t want to reinvent the wheel.

Sizes ranging from 40mm to 46mm have been tipped, with colors including Phantom Black, Silver, Pink Gold and Sapphire.
If you’re looking to get excited about a radically redesigned design, you might want to look to the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. According to reports, this watch will be established as a premium offering with a titanium and sapphire crystal construction.
It should be resistant to scratches, bumps and knocks, making it ideal for customers who want to use the functionality of the watch while doing more extreme activities such as mountaineering or BASE jumping. We can now see the ads.
If you loved the rotating bezel on the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, you’ll be sad to hear that Samsung seems to have retired the feature. It is reported that it will not appear on either model.
Leaked renders of the Watch 5 Pro are also available and indicate a thicker bezel that’s taller than the standard Watch 5, which should add to its durable build.
The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is one of the only Wear OS watches with a 3-day battery:

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 specs and features
Samsung has apparently answered one of the biggest criticisms of the Galaxy Watch 4 in a big way. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is set to pack a 572mAh battery that can last “at least 3 days.”
This would represent a new standard in the wearable space. Very few smartwatches have claimed a 72-hour battery before. Arguably the Galaxy Watch’s biggest competitor, the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8, has been tipped to only modestly better the Series 7’s 18-hour battery life.
Leaks have been quieter on the Galaxy Watch 5’s standard battery life, but we’re still expecting a significant increase in battery life of just over 1 day from the Galaxy Watch 4. Rumored speeds of 10W charging for the models, which would double that of the previous generation.
Heart rate monitoring, advanced sleep monitoring, fall detection, sports modes, blood pressure monitoring, and blood oxygen monitoring features should go from the fourth generation to the fifth Like the Watch 4, the new watches are expected to run Android’s WearOS.
As for the new features, there are conflicting reports on whether or not body temperature sensing technology will make it to the new models. If not, it’s safe to say that consumers would expect at least a few other new health-tracking features to justify the generation’s existence.
