We spent some time with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 during Galaxy Unpacked proceedings, and you can read our hands-on review to learn about the new foldable flagship. However, there were things we couldn’t and didn’t try back then.
Our regular detailed testing is now about to begin as a test unit is already in the office. It’s in the standard Phantom Black color instead of the Greygreen we initially handled (which Samsung named the hero color of this generation).
The retail package includes the phone itself, a USB-C to C cable and a SIM ejector. No, not even the $1,800/€1,800/£1,650 phone comes with a charger in the box. The only reason the box is so big is because the phone arrives open, keeping its internal 7.6-inch screen stretched out.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 has a 25W charging capacity, just like its predecessor. Thanks to some tweaks, however, the phone now charges faster; according to the official numbers, it will go from zero to 50% in half an hour. In our tests, the Z Fold3 only rose to 33% in the same period. Note that you’ll need a 25W Power Delivery USB charger for the fastest charging possible (or a 15W wireless charger if you don’t feel like plugging in).
Another thing we’re excited to try is the camera. It still doesn’t reach the standard set by the S22 Ultra, but it should at least match the S22/S22+. It uses the same 50MP GN3 sensor as the two S22 models (1/1.57”, 1.0µm pixels) and the same telephoto camera with a 10MP sensor and 3x lens.
The screens of the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 are shorter and wider
The aspect ratios of the cover and internal displays have been reshaped slightly, which should make them more ergonomic. Stay tuned for the full report, coming soon.
