Saskatchewan reports the second case of monkeypox, says it is not related to the first case

REGINA – Saskatchewan public health officials say they have confirmed a second case of monkeypox in the province.

They say the second infection is unrelated to the first case in the province, which was reported Wednesday.

Officials say the two people were probably infected outside the province, but contact tracking is underway.

The health ministry says the risk of the disease is low, but residents are encouraged to be aware of symptoms and contact a health care provider if they suspect they may be infected.

Typical symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.

They say that because of the risk of identifying the infected person, they do not disclose their location, age or sex.

This report from The Canadian Press was first published on July 15, 2022.
