The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to smoke calls in downtown Hudsons, 21st Street, shortly before 11 a.m. Friday.
“Upon arrival, smoke was coming out from the roof, but the evacuation of the occupants had not begun,” a press release said.
Some of the firefighters began evacuating people from the pub. About 130 people were evacuated on the north side of the street, according to the statement.
The Saskatoon fire department said the fire was contained on the roof of the building. However, smoke entered the bar through the ventilation system.
It was contained around 11:31 p.m. The cause of the fire was the tar made in the early hours of the day. The damage was estimated at about $ 25,000.
There were no injuries in the incident.
Three fire vehicles, a rescue unit, a ladder truck and the battalion chief were initially sent for the call, according to the press release. They were later joined by two more engines.
An investigation found that the business had no fire alarms in operation. Hudsons was locked up and ordered to fix the alarms before they could be reopened.
