Scottish independence referendum: voters split over plans to hold referendum next year

Scottish voters are divided on whether an independence referendum should be held next year, according to a new poll suggesting the country remains stuck in a constitutional stalemate.

A Panelbase poll for The Sunday Times suggests that 44% of voters oppose Nicola Sturgeon’s desire to hold a referendum in October 2023, with 43% in favor. 10% said they did not support or oppose a referendum and 3% said they did not know.

On the question of whether or not they support independence, 48% were in favor while 47% were against. Five percent said they didn’t know it.
