One of the longest lines for a panel at the ATX TV Festival was for the Sunday Morning Scrubs meeting, with creator Bill Lawrence and stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley , Judy Reyes and Neil Flynn.
“We’re all very grateful to any of you who still care, give us an excuse to hang out,” Lawrence said. “We’re happy to spend time with others anyway.”
Which begs the question: could there be a reboot or a rebirth with the original cast?
“Here’s the deal: I think we all want a reboot and we want to work together again, but it couldn’t be a full season. Maybe like a movie or something we could shoot in a few months,” Faison said. “With everything Bill is doing now, he will never be free again. If he finds the time, we will.”
Ted Lasso co-creator Lawrence added: “We’ll do it because people still care about us and we enjoy spending time with each other.”
A member of the audience asked what the characters would do today, and Reyes jumped to answer.
“I think Turk and JD are finally out,” Reyes said as the room erupted in celebration.
The cast also addressed whether or not there is a possibility of a musical.
“I don’t know if there’s going to be a Scrubs musical unless all the cast says they want to do it,” Lawrence said. “Do you really want to hear Sarah sing? No, you don’t.”
There is so much love shared between the cast as they shared memories of their time in the series. Memories like when Reyes, who portrayed Carla Espinosa for 8 seasons, remembers asking the writers for a change of pace for their characters.
“Why don’t I get a joke? I just want to be funny, “she reminded the show’s writers. Lawrence replied,” Judy was the emotional backbone and the dramatic backbone of the show. From the beginning, it made everything real. “
Judy added: “One of the biggest things about Bill is that he chooses real life stuff. Bill and the writers give you what you need to be a great actor. He gave me that fantasy when I lost my shit. which was one of my favorites. “
