Second suspect named in Michael Toohey’s murder investigation

A second suspect has been named in connection with the murder of Michael Toohey.

The 18-year-old from Oil Street, Liverpool, died after an assault outside a cybercafe on London Road around 5.50pm on Saturday 16 April. An autopsy confirmed he died of multiple injuries.

Michael Williams, 24, of Carlake Grove was arrested and later charged on Wednesday, June 8, with murder. He has been arrested for appearing in court in Liverpool today.

Anthony Williams, 31, of Hillbrook Drive, Walton, was arrested and charged with murder on May 17. Following an appearance in Liverpool Magistrates’ Court that day, he was arrested on 14 November for appearing in Liverpool’s Crown Court.

A total of 10 people, including the two accused, have now been arrested on suspicion of murdering Michael Toohey. They are:

  • A 20-year-old man from Kirkby has been released on parole
  • A 14-year-old Liverpool man has been conditionally amortized
  • A 15-year-old Liverpool man has been conditionally amortized
  • A 33-year-old homeless man has been conditioned
  • A 14-year-old Liverpool man has been conditionally amortized
  • A 25-year-old man from Kirkby has been released on parole
  • A 25-year-old man from Kirkby has been released on parole
  • A 19-year-old man from Kirkby has been released on parole

Michael’s family later paid tribute to her son “kind, affectionate and brave,” while his girlfriend Rhianna Draper said he made her the “happiest girl in the world” in a heartbreaking tribute.
