A trailer detailing all the Sega Genesis Mini 2 games, some of which are new releases or ports.
After revealing just 23 named titles in July, on Friday morning Sega announced the full lineup of 60 games that will be included in the limited supply of North American units of the Sega Genesis Mini 2 starting October 27th. Beyond the usual retro suspects, however, this list includes a couple of games that have never been released in any form, as well as several new arcade ports and Genesis titles with new features for their plug-and-play relaunch.
Expand / The unreleased Devi & Pii looks like an interesting and competitive take on a Breakout-style game. These previously unreleased retro games include Devi & Pii, a title designed by Sonic 3 developer Takashi Iizuka. The “paddle-style game” looks like a cross between Arkanoid and Twinkle Star Sprites, with one or two players moving back and forth to juggle angels and avoid bouncing devils.
The Genesis Mini 2 will also see the world premiere of Star Mobile, a game completed in 1992 by little-known developer Mindware, but never released. The puzzle-filled game involves stacking stars on a carefully balanced mobile in a way reminiscent of the board game Topple.
In addition to these two previously unreleased titles, the Genesis Mini 2 includes a few Sega arcade games that are being “ported” to Genesis-level hardware for the first time. This includes:
- Fantasy Zone: The same team that brought Darius to the first Genesis Mini, with a new easy mode that wasn’t in the galleries, the cute and cuddly side-scrolling shooter is brought to the Genesis.
- Space Harrier and Space Harrier II: Although the sequel was already technically native to the Genesis, these new ports use “modern technology” to provide a much smoother sprite scaling feature than was previously possible on 16-bit hardware ( it is not clear if these new ROMs). could work on a standard Genesis).
- Splashy: A little-known maze game from 1984 featuring a clown on a bouncing tricycle.
- Super Locomotive: A train game from 1982 focused on changing tracks to avoid collisions.
- VS Puyo Puyo Sun – An exclusive two-player competitive “mockup” of the third game in the popular color-matching puzzle series, with “new rules not found in the original version.”

This decorative-only case for a Sega CD Mini will be sold in Japan. There’s no word if a similar product will come to the US.
-
The same question about US availability goes for this all-analog joystick system, which will go on sale in Japan for ¥18,000 starting in October. It will support at least three games on both the Mega Drive Mini 2 and Genesis Mini 2.
Expand / Genesis Mini 2 version of Outrun will include new music. Other titles that were first released on the Genesis decades ago are getting new features for their Genesis Mini 2 re-releases. This includes:
- Hellfire: Sega’s trailer talks about unspecified “new features and options for the Genesis.”
- OutRun: All four in-game radio stations will now include “new [music] tracks that don’t appear in the original.”
- Phantasy Star II: The classic RPG now features “adjustable movement speed and a new easy mode.”
- Rainbow Islands Extra – “Extra mode” with new enemies is coming to North America for the first time.
- Truxton: Comes with a new option to play background music “at its original arcade speed”.
None of these titles or additions can have the star power of Star Fox 2 that eventually appeared on the Super NES Classic Edition. Still, as a whole, they show a certain level of care and attention to detail on Sega’s part that goes way beyond throwing some ROMs on a cheap emulation box.
