Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) said he won’t “run away” from Democrats egging him on after a newly released video showed him running from a pro-Trump mob during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, he reported Business Insider.
Driving the news: “And I just want to say to all those liberals out there and the liberal media, in case you haven’t gotten the message yet, I have no regrets,” Hawley told an audience Friday at Turning Point. USA conference held in Florida.
- And he added: “And I’m not backing down. I’m not going to ask for forgiveness; I’m not going to get close; I’m not going to run away from you.”
Catch up fast: During its prime-time hearing Thursday night, the House panel investigating Jan. 6 released a clip showing Hawley fleeing the mob that tore through the Capitol.
- The footage came after Hawley was seen raising a fist in solidarity with rioters that day. A photo of the moment circulated widely at the time.
- After the committee released the clip, people used it to mock Hawley, who was among congressional Republicans who opposed the 2020 election certification.
- After the hearing, Hawley rode the wave of attention in an effort to raise funds for his campaign by tweeting a link to his website of a mug with an illustration of the photo being did to him that day.
