Several residents displaced after a fire damaged a Mississauga townhouse complex

Several people have been displaced after a fire broke out in a Mississauga townhouse complex on Sunday afternoon.

The crews were called to 2869 Battleford Road, a three-story residence of several units, shortly after 2 p.m. for a major fire.

One firefighter was injured, but no residents were injured, according to authorities. They added that the fire had caused significant damage to the roof and attic.

The cause and origin of the fire are unknown.

A total of 36 units in the complex suffered fire, smoke and / or water damage, forcing officials to evacuate them. The exact number of people affected is unknown.

Some of the displaced residents were told to seek help at the Meadowvale Community Center, where social services, the emergency management office and the Canadian Red Cross were placed to help coordinate shelter, food, clothing and medicines.

Officials said fire crews will remain at the scene overnight and work with the Fire Committee Office to investigate the fire.

Residents who still need support are asked to call 905-615-4508.
