Sheryl Sandberg, Meta’s chief operating officer and the second in command of its founder, Mark Zuckerberg, said Wednesday it would leave the company after 14 years.
Ms Sandberg said she would leave Meta this fall and planned to continue serving on the company’s board of directors. Meta owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other applications.
“When I accepted this job in 2008, I hoped to be in this position for five years. Fourteen years later, it’s time to write the next chapter of my life, “Ms. Sandberg wrote in a Facebook post.
He added that he was “not entirely sure what the future holds,” but that he would focus on its foundation and philanthropy. Mrs Sandberg also said she would get married this summer.
Mrs. Sandberg was the key lieutenant of Mr. Zuckerberg on Facebook, which he joined after building the advertising business on Google.
