Shots fired by masked men during daytime chase

Four masked men fired shots during a daytime chase down a busy street.

Police were called to Mill Lane, Wavertree, shortly after 6:10 p.m., to report that four masked men in dark clothing riding a bicycle and a scooter were being chased when a shot was fired. An hour later, officers were called to a Mill Lane home where they found damage to a window consisting of gunfire.

There were no reports of injuries, and police said they believe the attack was a target. At one point, Mill Lane was closed in both directions due to the incident, and witnesses reported a large police presence on the roads surrounding the area, including Deverell Road. Police helicopter was also seen.

There were several police scenes with a police cordon outside a group of houses and another, much larger one, at the junction with Deverell Road, near a bus stop. Police were seen searching with their fingertips in the second scene and looking for a drain.

Witnesses told ECHO that the area is “normally quiet”. A man living near the scene outside the house said he “heard an octopus,” but thought it might have been a fireworks display. It was only when he saw the coroners and a cordon said he realized it was “something serious”.

Damaged home forensics were seen taking pictures inside and out. Officers will remain in the area to conduct forensic, CCTV, house-to-house and witness investigations, and to speak with the local community.
